How to Have a Fun & Healthy Vacation
Maintaining your health on vacation can be a challenge. Vacation seems like the time to splurge, indulge, and escape from our everyday obligations. What we forget is that vacation is supposed to make us feel good.
If you eat foods low in nutrition, skip out on physical exercise, and neglect mindfulness exercises, you will leave your vacation feeling worse than you did before you got there.
Eating better and moving more does not have to feel like a big burden. Doing what is best for your health can be enjoyable and in the end, will contribute to you feeling like a better version of yourself!
Read below to find out how you can have an enjoyable and healthy vacation!
- Walk To Explore
Track your steps and challenge your friends by walking to explore new areas. Not only will it save you money on Ubers and other public transportation, but it will get you moving and burning calories. You may end up seeing and exploring more than you would have if you took alternative modes of transportation! Among many other benefits, walking gives you a chance to slow down, appreciate the little things, and stay on track with your goals!
2. Drink Lots of Water
Water is our best friend as it is crucial to our well being. It fuels the body with energy, helps our digestion operate at its best, regulates our body temperature, and so much more. Keep a reusable water bottle with you while walking, laying at the beach, or playing in the pool. If you have a hard time remembering to take water breaks, set reminders on your phone!
3. Stock up on healthy snacks (grocery shop on first day)
Be proactive and hit the grocery store on your first day of the trip. Stock up on healthy snacks such as, fresh fruit, veggies and hummus, nuts, and protein bars. Doing this the first day will help you avoid making poor food decisions later on in the vacation. This way, when you head down to the beach or take a city bike ride you can pack snacks and be prepared to stick to healthy choices!
4. Plan Adventurous activity
If you are looking to stay active during your vacation, what better way to do that than scheduling fun activities! Planning will keep you accountable and give you something to look forward to. Try booking a guided hike, bike ride, city walk, or try something new! Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn to surf or rock climb. Vacation is a great time to try new activities and break a sweat without it feeling like too much work. It’s also a great way to bond with your friends and family!
5. Wake up early
Waking up early gives us more time in the morning for a relaxing walk, meditation, or time to make a nice breakfast. The way you start your morning will typically set the vibe for the rest of the day. Give yourself the space and time in the morning to do what feels best for you, so you can move through the day with ease!
All and all, vacation can be both fun and beneficial to your health. If you take a little bit of time to plan, having an enjoyable and healthy vacation can also be easy! Try these 5 tips next time you take a trip and let us know how they help you!
